I am a Certified Private Practice Counselor with a master's degree in counseling and education. My Washington State credential number is CL60145803. I am trained specifically to work with persons with diabilities and with adolescents.
In addition to the resources offered on this website, Lakewood Counseling offers counseling, education\training and consultation in the following areas:
- Relationship Counseling for significant relationships between partners, parents and children, employers and employees, and with oneself.
- Sexuality Education and Counseling, especially for couples, disabled persons and their families.
- Individual Counseling for persons dealing with major adjustments in their lives or for personal growth issues.
- Parent-Adolescent Mediation and Counseling for parents and adolescents going through transition from childhood to adulthood.
- Disability Counseling for disabled persons and their families both to deal with the normal problems of life and the special issues that arise with disabilities.
- Business Consultation for businesses focusing on employee support and relations with disabled employees.
I believe in openness, compassion and integrity in relationships between persons. I offer non-judgmental services that support an individual's right to be responsible for his or her life, choices and feelings.
ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY
I have been building computer systems since the early 80's. I started building computers from donated systems and parts and giving the systems to disabled persons in 1990. In the process I became interested in assistive technology. Assistive Technology refers to the process of matching technology and disabled users in a way that improves access. I hold a certificate in Assistive Technology from California State University, Northridge's (CSUN) Center on Disabilities (www.csun.edu/cod) After many years of experience and training, I now do computer consultation and assistive technology in many different settings and am a Assistive Technology provider and trainer for DVR. I keep current and get to create through a network of others in the field.
I designed, built and managed the Technology Bridge at CenterForce in Lakewood, at Assistive Technology Laboratory until its closing at the end of 2002.
Currently, I provide Assistive Technology Consultation, Assessment and Training to the Veteran's Administration, Washington State Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, and several other State agencies, private companies and individual consumers.
DISABILITY
Three years ago, I myself became disabled and in the process of coping with my new disability, have learned first hand a great deal about myself and about life.
