Building Home Update 01

September 8, 2024

On Sunday, February 25, Vision Sunday, Pastor Jonathan cast the vision to our church for Building Home. He called us to a two-year commitment to build our first permanent location! This vision is built upon Matthew 16:18, “Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.” You can watch the full Vision Sunday message here.

In the months that followed, Pastor Jonathan visited Life Groups and hosted Home Gatherings to get in front of as many people in our church as possible. These gatherings provided the space to hear new perspectives of the Summitcreek Story and allowed for people to ask questions about Building Home.

On Sunday, May 5, 2024, our church rallied together for Commitment Sunday. Together, we exceeded our goal of $1.75 million by committing $1,853,891! The two-year journey was set into motion.

Throughout the summer our team met frequently with Barbara Garrett, our project manager who specializes in managing the design and construction process for church projects. The building plans are currently in the design development phase. Our architect completed a conceptual layout plan that was reviewed by our staff and they are now beginning to assemble construction documents for the building. Once the design development plans have been assembled, our team will review the plans. The building site plan is also moving along; however, there have been some challenges along the way including balancing the site with dirt. The building has been moved farther north on the site to decrease the amount of necessary import fill. We have been meeting regularly with our civil engineer throughout this process.

In addition, our team went through a prayerful and diligent process to select a general contractor. We solicited eight qualified contractors and requested written proposals from each. We then selected three firms to interview. After a full day of interviews, Henning Companies was selected as the general contractor for our project.

We know that God has His hand on this building project. As of September 8, we have given $362,620.07 of the $1,853,891 committed! We are 19.6% of the way there and ahead of schedule. However, we know that the entirety of this process needs to be covered in prayer.

Prayer Requests:

  • Provisions for the additional dirt needed to raise the site and building to an appropriate level.
  • Favor with the City of Grimes as we are preparing to meet with them to discuss the site plan and associated building plans.
  • Wisdom and discernment for all of those involved with this project.
  • Overall unity on the project. Including likemindedness for all of the representatives from the church, design team, and construction team.
